Starling Handbag Video Crochet-A-Long - Episode 5

Episode 5 covers handles of the Starling Handbag.

Here are all of the Starling Crochet-A-Long videos.

Here is the foundation single crochet bridge tutorial.

This is the last video!  Big thanks to karin @ madebyk for telling me about the video software (Movie Maker.  Free!) that I used to edit together and add titles and music to this video.  See what I mean about the sparkles in my theme song?

I also learned how to better make videos now that I can edit parts together and add transitions between bits so you can see fsc 1,2,3 (nice fade) 23,24, 25.  The actual recording time for this one was MUCH shorter.  The software was super easy to use and made putting the whole thing together so fast.

Now I just need a camera that doesn't make me sound like I lisp.  :)

When you're done I have a tutorial for sewing a fabric lining and sewing that lining into your bag.

I have really enjoyed this. Thanks alot! Especially the fsc. What a revelation! Will have my son show me how to upload pics. Just have to put in my lining. This is my very first "(whatever) a long". Yay!

Sharon ... That is so awesome! Thank you for letting me know you've actually watched these. :) I feel like a public access TV star, complete with horrible visuals and crappy audio, but 100% heart. I can't wait to see photos of your bag.

Great videos! But the little paper titles were cute too! : )

karin @ madebyk ... I *could* keep using the hand-drawn cards. It would give me an excuse to employ some of those fancy, fancy transition. Oh, they are *so* fancy. :)

BTW, I think I had the old version installed already. It was awesome and had everything I needed. Clipping the video (start and end points) was less-than-precise, but otherwise I have no complaints. Thanks again!

Nicole ... Yes! :) We plan on meeting every third Wednesday. If the weather is bad, we move over to Grove, which is just a block away at Third and Mission (next to the Peet's). You can count on us. We'd love to see you there! :)

Hi Alice, Can you detail the part about attaching the FSC handle back to the bag? The part in the video that you call "tricky". :) It is tricky...I can't seem to get it! :) Thanks!
7/25/2010 7:37 PM

futuregirl replied ...
Kathy ... It *is* tricky! I had to video that bit several times because it was super hard to do with my arms wrapped around the camera. If you come back to this post, there's a link to a tutorial that covers *just* making the fsc bridge. It has all the details you need in photo and video form. Let me know if you have more questions after you check it out. :)

Alice thank you so much for taking the time to do these videos and pics. I started crochet recently, and I loved the bag, but got stuck at row one the whole summer. Then I came back to your site and saw that you made these videos. I could hear the angels singing! Thank you so much, now I've tackled the first handle and I am on my way to the second.

Hay Alice - Your video teaching for the Starling handbag is excellent and so easy to follow. Thanks and blessings to you for sharing your knowledge and pattern for free, to anyone who longs to learn more from an expert. You've got me as a fan (and customer)forever. I've just ordered some Lily Sugar n' Cream in the large ball to make a few of these bags.
Can't wait to see what you come up with next!!!! :D

Thank you so much for these videos! I completed my first Starling yesterday and although your written instructions were easy, seeing it and learning your tricks with the stitch markers made it so much easier! I'll post mine to show you! I do still need to find the right fabric for the lining though!

Am I missing the part where you make the lining to the bags and then stitch them in? I can't seem to find it. I would like to try to make one but I want these direstions before I start.

futuregirl replied ...
Kathy ... I already had tutorials for the lining (one for making the lining and one for sewing the lining into your bag), so I didn't include them in the crochet-a-long. You can find both of them by clicking on tutorials in the header. :)

Thank you for your download and tutorials, I 'm a recently retired English teacher and by watching these tutorials found that crochet is the thing to do for me when I'm free from my daily . Im going to send you a picture when I'm done, but I'm a beginner crocheter also I will use Red Heart crochet nylon cord num 18 in cream and purple or black since is only the thread I've got, it will take longer than others but is my challenge, att, Tannia from Puerto Rico.

Well now for the lining, hope to finish today, the bag has two errors but I didn' t want to undo the whole bag because these were minors ones which I covered by an embellishment done on the bind off, so you will see soon, Where do I post the pictures, on Flickr? Will send to all your sites, thank you so much, it looked simple but I think my problem was Im a beginner. Keep you posted.Tannia

I just finished my first sterling bag. I made a cloth purse for my grand daughterto carry her Bible to church. It had seen better days. So I made the sterling bag in pink and added the cross stitch deco from her old bag. Where can I find the lining instructions? Thank You so much for the fantastic instruction video. Going to make another sterling bag for my other grand daughter for Easter.
